The softball team lost a pair of games
to league-leading Trine, 25-5 and 4-1 on Wednesday,
April 25. Kalamazoo scored five runs on seven hits in
the first game. Abby Anderson was 2-for-3 with three
RBIs. Anderson and Grace Mathieu each hit home runs
in the game. In the second game, Kalamazoo scored one
run on three hits. Querubin Dubois was 2-for-2 with

Softball drops doubleheader
to Saint Mary's
The softball team lost a pair of games
to Saint Mary's at Western Michigan University's Ebert
Field on Saturday, April 21. Saint Mary's used a five-run
second inning to take an 8-0 lead after three innings.
Neither team scored over the final two innings as the
Belles' closed out the win. Taylor Clements, Emma Patrash,
Grace Mathieu and Calee Dieleman each had a hit for
Kalamazoo. In the second game, Saint Mary's scored multiple
runs in three consecutive innings en route to a 15-0
win. The Hornets had six hits in the game and left seven
runners on base. Querubin Dubois led the offensive effort
by going 2-for-3. The Hornets are scheduled to conclude
the season with a home doubleheader against Trine on
Wednesday, April 25 at 3:30 p.m. at Versluis Dickinson

Softball falls in
extra innings at Adrian
Mathieu homers in game one
The softball team lost the second game
of a doubleheader, 3-0, in nine innings at Adrian on
Thursday, April 19. The teams were scoreless through
eight innings before Adrian scored three runs with two
outs in the top of the ninth, including two unearned
runs. Kalamazoo's best opportunity to score was in the
fourth inning when the Hornets loaded the bases with
two outs before a pop up ended the inning. Emma Patrash
had two of Kalamazoo's three hits.
Kalamazoo lost the first game of the doubleheader,
9-1, as Adrian scored multiple runs in four of the five
innings. Grace Mathieu homered in the third inning for
Kalamazoo's only run. The Hornets loaded the bases with
no outs in the fourth, but Adrian's relief pitcher came
in and struck out the next three batters to end the
threat. Abby Anderson, Rayanne Burl and Holly Kramer
each had a hit in addition to Mathieu's home run. Kalamazoo
returns home to face Saint Mary's in a doubleheader
at WMU's Ebert Field on Saturday, April 21 at 1 p.m.

Calvin
The softball team lost a pair of games
at Calvin on Saturday, April 14 with scores of 10-1
and 9-0. Calvin scored five runs in the first inning
of game one en route to the 10-1 win. Querubin Dubois,
Madeline Sinkovich and Taylor Clements each had a hit
for the Hornets. Neither team scored in the first two
innings of the second game, but Calvin scored in each
of the final four innings before taking the 9-0 win.
Dubois and Rayanne Burl each had a hit for Kalamazoo.
The Hornets return to action with a doubleheader at
Adrian on Thursday, April 21 at 3:30 p.m. Game

Softball drops doubleheader
to Finlandia
The softball team lost a pair of non-conference
games to Finlandia at home on Friday, April 13. After
falling behind 1-0 in the first game, Kalamazoo used
a four-run third inning to take a 4-1 lead. Finlandia
responded with five runs in the top of the fourth and
added another run in the sixth to take the 7-4 win.
Kalamazoo had eight hits in the game, led by Abby Anderson
and Taylor Clements with two apiece. Anderson had a
double with two RBIs. In the second game, Finlandia
took advantage of a six-run first inning before adding
three runs in the fourth to take the 9-0 win. Querubin
Dubois, Rayanne Burl and Becca Romero each had a hit
in the second game. The Hornets return to action on
Saturday with a doubleheader at Calvin at 1 p.m. Game

Softball wins at
league-leading Albion
Anderson, Kramer, Patrash each have three hits
The softball team won the second game
of a doubleheader, 10-6, at league-leading Albion on
Wednesday, April 11. The Hornets fell behind 2-0 in
the first inning, but tied the score with a pair of
runs in the second. Kalamazoo took a 10-2 lead with
four runs in each of the third and fourth innings. Albion
combined for four more runs in the fifth and sixth,
but Kalamazoo held on for the 10-6 win. Taylor Clements
picked up her second win of the season on the mound
in the complete game win. The Hornets matched a season-high
with 14 hits in the game. Abby Anderson, Holly Kramer
and Emma Patrash each had three hits while Rayanne Burl
had a pair of hits. Patrash had two doubles while Anderson,
Kramer and Madeline Sinkovich each had a double.
Kalamazoo dropped the first game, 5-3, behind a four-run
first inning for Albion. Kalamazoo battled back to make
it 4-3 after five innings, but the Britons added an
insurance run in the sixth and held on for the win.
Querubin Dubois had two of Kalamazoo's six hits. Abby
Anderson homered and drove in a pair of runs. Kalamazoo
returns home to face Finlandia in non-conference play
on Friday, April 13 at 3:30 p.m. at Versluis Dickinson

Lead slips away
in softball loss to Hope
The softball team had a 5-2 lead over
Hope after three innings on Saturday, but the Flying
Dutch scored in each of the final four innings to take
a 12-5 win in game one at WMU's Ebert Field. Abby Anderson
led the Hornets offensively going 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Querubin Dubois had a triple. In the second game, Hope
led 2-1 after two innings before adding three runs in
the third and another run in each of the fifth and sixth
innings to take the 7-1 win. Six different players had
a hit for Kalamazoo. Lyndsay Nuyen and Holly Kramer
each had a double. The Hornets return to action with
a doubleheader at Albion on Wednesday, April 11 at 3:30

Softball drops doubleheader
to Olivet
The softball team lost both games of
a doubleheader to Olivet on Thursday, April 5 in Kalamazoo.
Kalamazoo was down 7-0 in the fourth inning of the first
game before Olivet added 12 runs in the fifth to take
the 19-0 win. Madeline Sinkovich, Querubin Dubois and
Lyndsay Nuyen each had a hit for Kalamazoo. Kalamazoo
scored first in the second game, but Olivet used a six-run
bottom of the first and a 10-run third inning to take
a 17-1 lead. The Comets added a run in the fourth before
Kalamazoo put up four runs in the fifth to make the
final, 18-5. Kalamazoo had 10 hits in the game, led
by Madeline Sinkovich's 3-for-3 effort with a double.
Rayanne Burl and Abby Anderson each had two hits while
Burl finished with two RBIs. Kalamazoo returns to action
with a doubleheader against Hope on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Softball loses close
games at Concordia
The softball team lost a pair of competitive
games at Concordia on Monday, April 2. The first game
was tied 2-2 after four innings, but Concordia pulled
ahead with a run in the fifth and another in the sixth.
The Hornets had two runners on in the sixth, but were
unable to push a run across in the 4-2 loss. Kalamazoo
had four hits in the game. Madeline Sinkovich had a
double. Querubin Dubois and Emma Patrash each drove
in a run.
In the second game, Kalamazoo trailed 1-0 after two
innings before Concordia scored three runs in the third
to take a 4-0 lead. Kalamazoo made it 4-1 in the fifth,
but Concordia added a pair of runs in the sixth to take
the 6-1 win. Kalamazoo had six hits in the game led
by Holly Kramer and Taylor Clements with two apiece.
Clements had a double while Dubois drove in the Hornets
only run. Kalamazoo returns to action with a home doubleheader
against Olivet on Thursday, April 5 at Versluis Dickinson

Softball loses non-conference
games to North Park
Mattison, Patrash homer for Kalamazoo
The softball team lost to North Park
11-1 and 10-6 in non-conference action on Saturday,
March 31. North Park scored five runs in the second
while adding three runs in the fourth and fifth innings
of game one. Kalamazoo had four hits in the game, including
a home run by Katie Mattison. In the second game, Kalamazoo
led 5-3 after three innings before North Park tied it
up at 5-5 in the top of the fourth. Kalamazoo pulled
ahead 6-5 in the bottom of the fifth, but North Park
used a four-run sixth inning to regain the lead while
adding another run in the seventh to hold on for the
win. Kalamazoo had 11 hits in the game. Madeline Sinkovich
was 4-for-4 to lead the way. Querubin Dubois had two
hits while Emma Patrash had two hits including a home
run and two runs scored. Kalamazoo is scheduled to play
next at Concordia on Monday, April 2 at 3:30 p.m. Game

The softball doubleheader scheduled
for Friday, March 30 at Concordia has been postponed
due to weather. The games have been rescheduled for

opener to Alma
The softball team lost its conference
opening doubleheader to Alma on Wednesday, March 28.
Kalamazoo trailed 4-0 after four innings in the opener
before Alma added three runs in the fifth and one in
the sixth for the 8-0 win. Madeline Sinkovich, Rayanne
Burl and Holly Kramer each had a hit in the game. In
the second game, Alma scored nine runs in the first
and seven in the second en route to a 20-1 win. Querubin
Dubois, Emma Patrash and Lyndsay Nuyen each had a hit
in the game. Kalamazoo returns to action on Friday with
a non-conference doubleheader at Concordia. Game

Softball defeats
St. Catherine University
The softball team picked up its first
win of the season, 17-10, over St. Catherine University
in Clermont, Fla. on Wednesday, March 21. Madeline Sinkovich
homered twice while Querubin Dubois and Holly Kramer
each had a double. In the second game of the day, Kalamazoo
was defeated 11-1 by William Paterson. Dubois had a
single for the Hornets. Kalamazoo returns home and opens
league play with Alma on Wednesday, March 28 at 3:30
p.m. at Versluis Dickinson Field One.
Softball battles
in close games on Tuesday in Florida
The softball team lost a pair of games
on Tuesday, March 20 in Clermont, Fla. In the opener
against New Paltz State, Kalamazoo led 3-2 in the fourth
inning but New Paltz State tied it at 3-3 in the fourth
and took the lead for good in the fifth to finish with
the 9-4 win. Abby Anderson had a double as one of Kalamazoo's
five hits.
In the second game against Ramapo, Kalamazoo led 1-0
in the top of the first but trailed 2-1 after the third
inning. Kalamazoo tied it up at 2-2 in the top of the
fourth, but Ramapo scored six runs in the bottom half
and added a run in the fifth and sixth to take the 10-2
win. Kalamazoo had seven hits in the game led by Madeline
Sinkovich and Rayanne Burl with two apiece. Emma Patrash
and Holly Kramer each drove in a run. Kalamazoo wraps
up the spring trip on Wednesday with games against St.
Catherine and William Paterson. New

Softball defeated
by Union, Allegheny
The softball team lost 8-0 to Union
College on Sunday, March 18 in Clermont, Fla. Union
scored three runs in the second and was held scoreless
until the fifth when the Dutchwomen scored five more
runs to complete the win. Abby Anderson had the only
hit for Kalamazoo.
In the second game, Kalamazoo fell 7-1 to Allegheny.
The Hornets had runners in scoring position in four
of the first five innings, but weren't able to push
a run across until the sixth inning. Kalamazoo had six
hits in the game, led by Abby Anderson's two doubles.
Madeline Sinkovich also had a double. The Hornets are
off until Tuesday when they play New Paltz State and
Ramapo. Union

Softball falls to
Babson, Taylor on first day in Florida
The softball team lost its season opener
8-0 to Babson College in Clermont, Fla. on Saturday,
March 17. Babson scored two runs in the first and six
in the third while holding Kalamazoo without a run or
a hit.
Kalamazoo lost 10-0 to Taylor (Ind.) Saturday evening.
The Trojans scored two in the first and four in the
third before adding another run in the fourth and three
more in the fifth. The Hornets loaded the bases in the
third inning, but were unable to push across a run.
Rayanne Burl and Donna Aguilar each had a hit for the
Hornets. Kalamazoo returns to action Sunday morning

Games to be played at Versluis Dickinson Park and WMU's
Ebert Field
With construction
and renovation of the Kalamazoo College atheltic fields
well underway, the Hornet softball team will play its
home games off-site this spring while the new stadium
is completed.
Versluis Dickinson Park (Field 1) and Western Michigan University's Ebert Field will serve as home fields for Kalamazoo College during the 2012 season. Five of the seven home doubleheaders will take place at Versluis Dickinson while the home doubleheaders against Hope and Saint Mary's will be played at WMU's Ebert Field. Please see the schedule for dates and times.
Versluis Dickinson Park is located approximately 1.5 miles north of Kalamazoo College and is about a five to seven minute drive from campus. Map/Directions

The Hornets will return to a brand new stadium on campus next spring. The softball field will feature natural turf with a complete drainage system, new dugouts, bleachers, press box and scoreboard. The entire athletic complex will also feature a new fieldhouse for locker rooms and athletic training facilities along with a new stadium services building that includes new restrooms and a concesion stand.
Ritch Harrison named head softball coach
Richard (Ritch) Harrison was hired as Kalamazoo College’s head softball coach on September 8, 2011.
Harrison comes to Kalamazoo College from Plainwell High School where he coached the past 10 seasons. He was a varsity assistant coach for five years (2001-06) as well as the junior varsity coach in 2004 and 2005. Harrison took over the varsity head coach position in 2007 and built a program that won Greater Kalamazoo Softball Tournament Silver Division championships in 2007 and 2009.
Prior to his time coaching at Plainwell High School, Harrison played an important role in Kalamazoo-area little league and community recreation programs, including two years as president of his local little league. He has been involved with the Plainwell Community Recreation softball and basketball programs since 1996, and has achieved master elite certification through the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) Coaches Advancement Program.
In addition to coaching softball, Harrison continues
to run a business he started in 2001, Accupack Industrial,
an industrial distributor company operating out of Plainwell.
